MOVIE REVIEW: KARATE KID (2010 REMAKE) (PG)

SLIDERS REVIEW:

Without even watching this remake I knew what the purpose of this film was. Most of us know what the first karate kid movie was all about so I pretty much knew the outcome. This was a way of exposing the main character Jaden Smith to the world. His dad Will Smith put this project together with his wife because they believe their son has a talent for acting and the big screen just like them. In the pursuit of happiness Jaden’s performance was amazing for a first timer but then again his future was bright anyway, I mean he is the son of Will Smith.

I have been excited about this film from the moment I saw the trailer. So I was excited watching it and was not disappointed. Jaden Smith who plays Dre Parker does do his best with the acting but I feel he couldn’t really handle the emotional scenes. His character is believable which is always key to any character in any film, this makes it heart warming to see him go from just a boy from America to this kung fu fighter in china. Just by watching Jaden Smith act I can see his dad in him. It’s the way he talks and his facial expressions. His dad’s swagger has definitely rubbed off on him.

Surprisingly “Mr Han” who is played by Jackie Chan pulls off an amazing performance in the film simply because his character is not the usual of Jackie Chan. He took a new approach in this one and could land him a Oscar nomination. I believe he is good for it. China made sure to expose itself in this film to the rest of the world because the wide, medium and long shots of the country landmarks are just simply beautiful to look at. Some people will finish watching this film and think they are kung fu fighter because they can put on and put off their jacket just like Jaden Smith does in this movie. LOL

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:   4++++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

Mr Hans first fight scene will have to be my favourite in this movie because he was able to fight these young kids without hitting them. He makes them hit each other rather than him hitting them.
The visuals in this fight are exciting to say the least.

SYNOPSIS:

The plot is about a 12-year-old boy from Detroit who moves to China with his mother and just like any school he runs into bullies who make him feel less than wanted. He meets an old maintenance man, Mr Han who is a kung fu master. He trains him in kung fu for self defence and for a competition where he will meet his nemesis.

MOVIE REVIEW: PREDATORS (15)

SLIDERS REVIEW:

I’m not even going to beat around the bush and say it that this film just sucks yes I think it’s not that good. From the casting down to the way the whole story is written out. At the start of this Robert Rodriguez produced film, we see the main actor Royce (Adrien Brody) waking up falling from out the sky into this planet which he doesn’t know nothing about. He manages to open his parachute and just about land in this new planet where he meets these other characters that have suffered the same fate and ended up there. After a few altercations they all decide to stick together and venture through the jungle.
This movie doesn’t create any real type of meaning to the viewers and I think the story was told poorly. Every time a character was killed by an alien Predator you don’t think that person had any real significance. The killings of the Predators are a visual treat. The detail on the aliens look very impressive and also the movements by Derek Mears (Google him) the man behind the mask of the main predator is very neatly done. It’s the only thing I can say was good in this film. The Arnold Schwarzenegger days of the Predator franchise started with a bang, shame to see it go to waste.
I normally have a favourite actor/actress in films and I did in this one, which was the American doctor Edwin (Topher Grace) but I changed my mind when he’s character changes towards the end. He shows his true colours as being a monster who likes killings and not this nice sensitive doctor I had come to like in the movie. I don’t think it worked when his character changed for me it made it unbelievable. For the type of actor he is they should have gotten someone else for his role.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:    1.5+~

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

Edwin (Topher Grace), Isabelle (Alice Braga), Royce (Adrien Brody) are all fleeing to the Predators ship in order to escape the planet they were in. Edwin leg gets caught in a trap and he is unable to continue running. Royce wants Isabelle to leave him as the Predators are hot on their tale. Edwin pleads to them to carry him but Royce feels it will only slow them down. Edwin then pulls out a picture in his pocket of two children that are of Nikolai’s (Oleg Takarov) who was killed earlier in the film. Edwin pretends that their his kids and screams
“You Can’t Leave Me Here I’ve Got Kids”

MOVIE REVIEW: DEATH AT A FUNERAL (2010 REMAKE) (15)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

I haven’t seen the English version of this film but this American version is just hilarious. The whole movie is set in one house and is jam packed with famous faces. Chris Rock produces the funny goods as usual and his acting skill is just as good. My star actor for this film will have to go to James Marsden as his character changes when he’s given the hallucinagenic drug by his girlfriend Zoe Saldana. He starts to do crazy things like strip naked, climb roof and sings even though he’s at a funeral. He places the cherry on top for me when he thinks the dead person in the coffin at the funeral is alive and manages to disrupt the service and open the casket which falls on the floor and body roll out on to the floor. The look of anger and surprise on everyone’s face told a thousand word and then some.
What I like about this comedy is that it went just a little bit more to be funny and it worked. Everytime they showed the Oscar character behaving oddly there was a repeat of this Jamaican instrumental that was playing. The beat was to represent his state of mind. I saw this film twice so if you want to haven’t seen this one then go see it. You’ll have a laugh.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5: 4++++~

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:
Uncle Russell (Danny Glover) is being escorted to the bathroom by Norman (Tracy Morgan) and as they both reach the bathroom and Norman helps Uncle Russell on the toilet seat from his wheel chair. Norman is made to undo Uncle Russell trousers even though Norman totally declines. Norman was not quick enough to remove his hands before Uncle Russell starts to poo. Norman pulls his hands out only to have it back covered in poo. Norman starts to scream in disbelief and turn on the tap to wash in hands off. The water splashes everywhere and poo gets all over his face & shirt.

MOVIE REVIEW: GET HIM TO THE GREEK (15)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:
If you haven’t seen this movie yet then I know what everyone’s thinking. Don’t worry I was thinking it aswell. So the question is... Could Sean “Diddy” Combs act in his first proper role on the big screen? The answer is YES. To my high hopes he pulled it off. So hats off to you Diddy. I was surprised how well he acted in the film. He was funny and was believable in his role. I didn’t think he would be as good as he was but I am happy to be proven wrong.
(at least now he can pursue his acting career more and hang up the mic, his time has passed. I mean it’s not like he needs music money. I’m sure he’s getting enough of that.)
Now back to what I thought of this Nicholas Stoller film. By watching the trailer you would know what to expect from this film: Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll. Russell brands and Jonah hill are two opposite people so it works on screen with the roles they portray. Sitting in the screen, crunching away on my popcorn this film had me excited as it was very funny and had great moments. My eyes were fixed on the screen just to see what crazy things the duo would get up to next. Jonah hill’s acting skills are second to none, he’s a natural and Russell Brand is not so bad either.
One thing I took from this film it’s that no matter how cool, hard or sexy someone looks, if they haven’t got nobody who loves who them or have any real friends then they are lonely on the inside. This film it’s definitely worth the film it was made on. I look forward to seeing more films from this director.
MY STAR RATING OUT OF 5: 4++++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:
A scene where Sergio (Sean Diddy Combs) is having a conversation with Aaron (Jonah Hill). Sergio is explaining to Aaron about how to mind fuck people. Aaron does not understand what mind fucking people is and looks oblivious to anything he’s saying. Sergio then says “I’m mind fucking you right now” he repeats this and then there’s a pause. Aaron then replies to Sergio “I hope you have a condom on because I have a dirty mind”

(If you loved another moment in the film, please feel free to tell me in the comments)
SYNOPSIS:
Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) is an intern working for a record company. He has been given a task by his boss Sergio Roma (Sean “Diddy” Combs) to get rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles from London in 72 hours. Not everything goes according to plan as trying to get a rock star from one place to another seems impossible. People like Aldous come with more baggage than even a plane can’t carry on board. Aaron also soon discovers why Aldous is like the way he is.

MOVIE REVIEW: KiILLERS (2010) (12A)

MOVIE REVIEW: SHREK 4: FOREVER AFTER (U)

THE REVIEW:

Shrek is back with the fourth chapter in the series. Mike Myers & Eddie Murphy make a good couple on screen and his wife Princess Fiona put off debates that an ugly man, well ogre in this matter can’t get a princess like her. Shrek in 3D looks excellent. The detail shooting out of the screen and into your face is simply amazing. This fantasy film is definitely a day out with the whole family. This fourth Shrek is not a classic as a whole but is a good enough send off to end it. The kids will have a good time as I’m sure they are Shrek fans already. Eddie Murphy’s delivery as Donkey is impressive, he was just born a funny man. I am not much of a fan of Shrek but was glad that I had the opportunity to see this as I had a great laugh and loved it. The lesson being put across in this film is that people don’t know what they have until it’s gone.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5: 3.5+++~

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

A scene where Shrek is explaining to Donkey about finding his wife Princess Fiona and kissing her to break the curse of the contract in order to get back to his real life. Donkey does not understanding what Shrek is saying and thinking that he was talking to him about kissing him says to Shrek “You’re Going To Have To Take Me To Dinner First” with a sarcastic face pulled.

SYNOPSIS:

Mike Myers (Shrek) is now a married man with three kids who is now doing the same thing everyday like a normal household would like Wake up, Eat, Work & Sleep. This repetitive lifestyle become too much for him as all he wants to do is go back to how he was before he met Fiona and had kids, when he was a feared ogre living in the wild not tied down to all this responsibilities.
He meets an evil magician Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dorhrn) who makes him an unfair deal to have his wish come true, he’s left in a world where nobody knows him. Shrek must now find his Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and make her fall in love with him again in order to break the curse of the contract and bring down Rumpelstiltskin. He finds out that Princess Fiona is a different person in the world he’s in. He also finds Donkey (Eddie Murphy) who doesn’t know him either and has to persuade him to help on his quest in which he must complete in one day.
