MOVIE REVIEW: THE DIVIDE (18)

"ABSOLUTE MADNESS"
+++~
The Divide is a science fiction thriller film directed by Xavier Gens (same guy that brought us Hitman, 2007). This film centres survivors of a nuclear attack, they are grouped together for weeks in the basement of their apartment building, were fear and dwindling supplies wear away at their dynamic. Its starring Laura German, Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Courtney B. Vance, Ashton Holmes, Rosanna Arquette, Ivan Gonzalez, Michael Eklund & Abbey Thickson.

#FilmFact: Melissa George, Seann William Scott, Robert Patrick and Raphaƫl Personnaz were originally going to star in this project.

THE REVIEW:
The moment i saw the trailer for The Divide i knew i wanted to watch it, this looked serious and entertaining (i hope im right). A group of surivors locked in an confined space after a nuclear attack with just about enough living supplies. The little action scenes included in the trailer also seemed promising.

After i watched this film i was very suprised on how everything unfolded. I was not expecting such a disturbing & gruesome turn of events. Its starts off as anyone could predict with the nuclear attack & panic but as soon as the dust settles and reality kicks in, their characters normal state starts to fade to insanity. This is definately not for the faintharted, as some scenes will mess your head. I found myself looking away at least two to three times, the horrific scenes are uncomfortable to watch. The way Director Xavier Gens manages to capture the human behaviour in such a crazy & horrific way has to be an achievement.
The drama is engaging & very well written. As the film moves along it got crazier and crazier. The storyline speed was well paced all the way to its inevitable end. This was front row seats  to see how society was gradually evaporating in front of our eyes. When fear is the only emotion avaliable, people do the most insane things.

Under 18's wont last an hour watching this & some adults may not have the stomach for it either. We don't like to think that people are capable of certain things, but in extreme conditions people can be pushed to do the unimaginable. All the characters were great on screen ,there was no slackers. Everyone gave it their all. This is one of the best sci fi films ive seen lately. This film might not catch attention at first but in time it will be a serious talking point. It demands attention and deserves it.

OVERALL:  NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED.
 STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  3.5
