FILM REVIEW: RED (12A)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

AH! *sigh* getting old sucks doesn’t it, just because one is RETIRED doesn’t mean your still not EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
(oh but that’s if you used to be a top CIA Agent)

RED is about some CIA agents who used to be the best in their days. Now they are OAP’s living in retirement homes or alone by themseleves. A hit list is made and they have become prime targets. To stay alive they form a team together to find out whos after them.

This is one badass action comedy movie. Who wouldn’t have fun watching these great actors with guns (lots of it), car chases, great banter, funny lines & great locations. The storyline doesn’t dissapoint because even though a heap of people are killed theres still a lightness and it doesn’t get in too heavy. This movie works well also because all the actors/actress are funny enough OLD in real life. Willis is 55, Freeman is 73, Malkovich is 56 & Mirren is 65.

Director Robert Schwentke manages to tell this story as well as he could. All the main characters are used properly and have a likeness to them. This is why people should go cinema, for good movies like this. Even though the film does go on for a best part of 2 hours Its worth it as I found it trully entertaining. From the moment the Frank Moses character gets attacked in his kitchen. I was drawn in till it finished. Very fun to watch.

Who says old people cant be cool?. The characters are as good as it could get, with a line up cast of Bruce Willis who plays the lead role as (Frank Moses)a black ops CIA agent. If you ever wondered what a CIA agent would be like in real life then his character defines it. calm cool but very dangerous. Morgan freeman is another retired agent (Joe Matheson) who joins up with moses to take down the people trying to kill them. My favourite character would have to be John Malkovich, he plays this paraniod character (Marvin Boggs) whos just naturally funny with his lines and his suspicious nature. His “Old Man My A**” scene was super cool and a joy to watch. Helen Mirren plays an ex agent also. She the only woman In the group but that doesnt stop her shooting big guns with pure authority. She’s one firece bad b****. Great actress also

I cant even think of a negative except for Bruce Willis’s police car stunt. Visually it looks great but theroretically its impossible. The car is is being spun after been crashed into. He then manages to open the door and step out like he the car wasn’t moving at all and then start shooting at the same time... Really? (you have to see it to understand my rant)

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5: 4.5

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

The kitchen fight scene with Frank Moses (Bruce Willis). He beats up some black ops in his hallway who have come to kill him. Then he puts a pan on the stove and puts bullets on it. He leaves the kitchen and heads underground. The bullets get red hot and they start to fire off on their own In the kitchen. The rest of the black ops team outside shoot down the house thinking their men inside are in need of help. They then come inside the house to check on the carnage and Frank Moses kills them all.
