MOVIE REVIEW: SCREAM 4 (15)

"GRIPPING YET SO FUNNY"
+++++
Scre4m (Scream 4) is a Thriller Mystery Horror film Directed by Wes Craven (same guy that brought us all the previous Screams & Last House On The Left, 2009). Ten Years has passed and Cindy Prescott has managed to piece back her life one book at a time. She goes back to where it all started and unfortunately for her she gets a visit from the Ghostface Killer. Its Starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Anthony Anderson, Alison Brie, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody & Mary McDonnell.
THE REVIEW:
So... What’s Your Favourite Scary Movie?

Scre4m is back for the fourth instalment in its series and trust us when we say it’s something special. The whole production team went that little bit extra to make this one a success. What we have here is a quality & entertaining slasher film. Die-hard fans are in for a special treat as Craven gives us a whole new angle on the Horror genre. This just might be the best Scream since the first one. #Debatable

Slides and Smalls had the opportunity of sitting in for a screening and watching this suspenseful piece of film making. It should be illegal to laugh at some of the killings that happen in this film, stab after stab after stab the whole story easily grabs your attention (its actually ridiculous how many stabbings occur). From the opening scenes the laughter & suspense naturally set the mood. One other thing director got right was the element of surprise, the camera work was perfectly done.
The whole not knowing what was around the corner and who was where kept us at the edge of our seats. The music also helped a lot (multiple make you jump scenes). Once the first kill happens we naturally started trying to guess who the killer was, they hide it very well until the reveal it right at the end. It’s very scary and funny at the same time (good combination). We recommend anyone who wants blood and laughter will enjoy this flick.

The cast as a whole was brilliant. Cox, Arquette, Campbell & Roberts all pull off strong performances that helped it all come together.
#OVERALL: Very Good Horror Film.

MOVIE REVIEW: RED RIDING HOOD (12A)

"AVERAGE IN EVERY ASPECT"
++
Red Riding Hood is a dark fantasy film directed by Catherine Hardwicke (same woman that brought us Thirteen, 2006.) This film is set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family’s displeasure. Its Starring Amanda Seyfried, Virginia Masden, Billy Burke, Julie Christie, Shiloh Fernandez, Gary Oldman, Max Irons, Michael Shanks, Christine Willes, Michael Hogan & Lukas Haas.

#Fact: This film is loosely based on the folk tale: Little Red Riding Hood
THE REVIEW:
This is one of them films that tried its best at a good piece of film making but fell at the first hurdle. The entertainment level is very average, they had a chance to make it into something great but then just don’t. Even when we are introduced to this CGI Werewolf, it doesn't come off as bloody and gruesome as I would have liked (more please). The whole experience reminded me of Twilight alot, it just has that feel to it. I think they had that type of fan base in mind when making this. It’s called Red Riding Hood but she doesn’t ride anything. Hmm.. Strange? (I thought so too).

A lot of people are going to be disappointed with this film, I gave up on the storyline half way through it (if there was one). The script is very much as Cliché as anything I had seen lately, its probably the worst film I have seen in April if not 2011. As a whole it seemed too staged (nobody wants to feel the fakeness) Only good thing women can look forward to is all the men that they like to call eye candy, and a very mediocre acting the leading men pull off. Amanda Seyfried becomes more and more appealing as the film crawls along. She does her best to hold It all together but sadly failed. Gary Oldman shows class in his acting but most of the others fail to do the same.
#Overall: A Last Resort Choice.

MOVIE REVIEW: RIO (U) (2D) (3D)

"ALL ABOUT THE CHARACTERS"
+++~
Rio is a 3D computer animated film from Blue Sky Studios (their 6th feature & Creators of the Ice Age series) This film is directed by Carlos Saldanha. It’s about a domesticated macaw bird called Blu who meets a independent Jewel, they both take off on an adventure in Rio de Janeiro. The Characters are voiced by Jessie Eisenberg, Anna Hathaway, Rodrigo Santoro, Bebel Gilberto, Jamie Foxx, Will.i.am, Tracey Morgan, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Leslie Mann, Jermaine Clement & Jane Lynch.
THE REVIEW:
Just like I had previously predicted in my HOP review when I said I thought that Rio was going to be a better watch and right I was. It’s more fun, colourful and rich in animation and entertainment. (Can’t go wrong with this one) I only had a chance to watch this in 2D so I can’t comment on its 3D, but from what I hear it’s pretty cool. #AllSystemsGo

After watching this I was happy with the way it turned out. This story is centred in the city of Rio de Janerio so it was only right that a parade of the culture was blended in with the storyline. Rio goes on journey with a love interest that’s funny and heart-warming, its also full of characters that are just a joy to see on screen. All these little animals sillyness and mischiefs combined is what makes this film a success.
The only poor thing about this is its plain & simple storyline. It felt like it was adapted from one CBBC’s cartoon that I could see on TV on a random Monday after school. Haven’t said that I don’t think the Kids will mind as they will love all the funny things this has to offer. This is a perfect film to watch as a family, the adult will enjoy the interaction of the different animal characters.

I thought the voice of Rio was perfect, the writers picked a good person to represent such a simple  and domesticated bird. Eisenberg looks and sounds like an socially awkward person so merging him and Blu together was a brilliant decision. His character is fun to watch on his journey of love & self-discovery. Jewel (Hathaway) is one brave little missy. Her independence gave Blu the confidence to want to be brave, her character was great. Toco Toucan (Lopez) was a funny & encouraging character, he was the father figure and tour guide who had everyone’s best interest. Luiz the Bulldog (Morgan) was also very funny, he was a classic yet clumsy character. The cast as whole was very good.
#Overall: GREAT FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT.

MOVIE REVIEW: SUCKER PUNCH (12A)

"ENTERTAINING IMAGINATIONS"
 +++~
Sucker Punch is a Action Fantasy Thriller film directed by Zack Snyder (same guy that brought us 300 & Watchmen). This film is about a young girl who gets institutionalized by her abusive stepfather. Her coping strategy is to go into an imaginative world, in there she develops an escape plan from the mental facility. Its Starring Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn & Oscar Isaac.
THE REVIEW:
When I saw the trailer for this Movie I was interested to watch it because it looks different to what I had seen lately. Action packed with girls, guns and brilliant battle scenes (What more could a guy ask for).

After watching this film I wasn’t surprised at the full on action displayed, the CGI is heavily used which looks amazing but sometimes felt over used.  There a bunch of beautiful girls in sexy outfits fighting robots, dragons & samurai masters using various types of guns whilst in their imagined world. The fantasy level is over the roof, in a dance our main character Babydoll can make anything in her wildest imaginations becomes possible, Ridiculous? kind of but it added to the films entertainment & fun value. The style and tone is merged well, the director also manages to give it that video game look that worked gracefully (teenagers will love this factor). It also had that modern comic book feel that made it look creative. Snyder paint us a vivid picture on how he thinks these characters would view their imaginary worlds and also he does a fantastic job with the cinematography.

The film doesn’t expect you to over think it and criticize it just wants people to try something new and see how they feel about it. The storyline itself is a little half-hearted and a tad stupid but after seeing all the actions scenes thrown in I don’t think a majority will mind. The escapism is captured very well. It has different meanings that viewers will have to interpret into their own understanding. There is a lot of symbolical music in this film, when watching it was like the music was a key to the path way to the imaginative world these girls enter. The moods are set with specific music played, the music almost becomes a virtual character that nobody can see but everyone can hear & relate to. Great Soundtracks.

Emily Browning plays a beautiful front lady called Babydoll. This character is the pack leader that engages others though the battles, her acting skills was very Applausable. The cast works because of the girls. Sweet Pea, Rocket, Blondie & Amber take us on an entertaining ride.

MOVIE REVIEW: HOP (U)

"HOPS ALONG JUST FINE"
 ++~
Hop is a Easter themed animated film from Universal Studios & illumination Entertainment. It is directed by Tim Hill (same guy that brought us Alvin & The Chipmunks, 2007).  This film is about a Easter Bunny’s teenage son that heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock and roll band. He gets taken in by Fed who hits him with his car. Its Starring James Marsden, Russell Brand, Kaley Cuoco, Hank Azaria, Tiffany Espensen, Chelsea Handler, Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole, David Hasselhoff,  Hugh Laurie & Laurie Metcalf.

THE REVIEW:
When I saw the trailer for this film I definitely looked like one for the kids to enjoy. This animated bunny takes us on a journey that was exciting to watch. A must watch for the whole family. (But I have a feeling RIO out on the 8th will be better.) #JustSaying

After watching this it’s safe to say that Hop is for the kids. This is just an easy go drama about the relationship between a talking bunny and a human. The kids will love a story like this and parents won’t mind it either. Its good entertainment because of the adventure the main character goes on. It has exciting and funny moments that helps the film hop along just fine. The animations looked very well done especially the chicks, they were very cute to look at.

One thing strikes out when I first heard Russell brand talking as E.B. The young Easter bunny look does not fit with brands voice. It just sounds weird but as the movie goes on I sort of had to accept it, but it does stick out like uncombed hair. Fred O’ Hare played by James Marsden does great job. Him and the bunny worked off each other’s energy, this gave the film and uplifting feel. Carlos played by Hank Azaria was quite funny with this type of mischievous behaviour. His character is what kids love to see and giggle at so they got that right. The cast a whole works. #ThumbsUp

MOVIE REVIEW: SOURCE CODE (12A)

"AS EXHILARATING AS INCEPTION"
  +++++
Source Code is a Action Sci Fi Thriller film Directed by Duncan Jones (same guy that brought us Moon, 2009) This film centres a soldier who wakes up in another man’s body. He soon discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. It’s starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright, Russell Peters, Michael Arden & Scott Bakula.
#FACT: Topher Grace was also considered for the lead role.

THE REVIEW:
When I saw the trailer for this film, I knew I had to go see it. Last time I saw Jake Gyllenhaal in a major role was in Love & Other Drugs and his performance there was very heartfelt.

When I watched Source Code I was surprised that it surpassed all my expectations, believe me when I say this is one epic blockbuster (a must see). It’s one of the most thrilling rides I've been on whilst watching a film. The action is very hands on and detective like work so were exploring with the lead role, this made it very entertaining. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is as good as Inception (yep it’s that good). From the moment we meet Capt. Colter Stevens on a train this film had my full attention (it just grabs you from the word Go). I felt like I started off with the main character because he knows as much as I did when the film starts so it felt like we went through understanding the Source Code together.

 I loved the twist and turns the storyline takes, there's too many outcomes to try & figure out before the next stage of the film. it has a very creative plot alongside the type of love story I could see developing. Parts of the film has that jaw dropping effect that just keeps getting better. I think most people who see this film will want to watch it again to understand it more or simply to just to watch it again. I loved the concept that a man could go back 8 minutes using a computer programme before an explosion in a bid to save lives. The visual effects of the explosions looked really cool to watch. The director has produced the world a smart action thriller that does its job extremely well and will be talked about for months to come. The Best Film in 2011 So Far.

Jake Gyllenhaal has done it again. This has got to be his best work on screen in a very long time. His character as Capt. Colter Steven was a very heart pounding person to watch. He carried this film from the moment we set eyes on him all the way to the end. He’s a smart and charming man that just had everything his character needed. A Very good actor. Michelle Monaghan is one pretty woman. Her character was Christina. She plays this neatly dressed, well-spoken woman exceptionally well. I’m sure it wasn't easy trying to keep up with forever changing scenarios. The women on the monitor screen is Carol Goodwin, her character is played by Vera Farmiga. She help us understand more as the film goes along. She also is a very good actress. Jeffery Wright plays a very believable Dr. Rutledge. I for one was surprised to see Russell Peters in this film (when did he become an actor?). I have to give credit to the comedian because he does an Applausable job, surprisingly the acting seemed to come natural to him (he even gets to tell a few jokes). This cast was amazing as a whole.
