MOVIE REVIEW: THE OTHER GUYS (12A)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

What a hilarious film this is. The other guys is funny most of the way through. When I saw the trailer for this one I was already laughing so I was really looking forward to watching it.

This is not just another action comedy film, it had a little difference to it. The pairing of the two lead characters Will Ferrell (Allen Gamble) & Mark Wahlberg (Terry Hoitz) was odd.  One was really loud and raring for action whilst the other just wants to sit at his desk writing up paper work. Their chemistry on screen was a breath of fresh comedy. It wasn’t just how they said what they said it’s how they said it whilst acting. How we humans perceive things has been rumbled so how things are meant to look is not what we see. The action scenes are racy & exciting.

The writer Chris Henchy had lines that you don’t see actor/actress saying in funny films. Some of the jokes worked whilst some of it felt out of place. Samuel L Jackson & Dwayne Johnson have a small part at the start of this film. I don’t normally find Samuel L Jackson funny but he was. Im surprised that I wanted him to stay on screen for longer. His best line: “Did somebody call 9 1 ... Holy S*it”.

The script had the good, the bad and the ugly elements. The good was that it was entertaining, the bad being that it ran for too long and felt a little complicated, the ugly is that the actual storyline ran out of steam like 90 minutes into it making me lose a lil interest. When every part of the story is revealed I didn’t think it could get any better than what I had seen already. But not to dampen the spirit of this film, I must say it’s a good watch.

#Director Adam McKay couldn’t get everything perfect.
MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  4++++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

The scene where Detective Terry Hoitz is in Detective Allen Gamble’s car on a call. A not impressed Terry asks Allen about his new car.
Terry: What the hell is this?
Allen: It’s my car, it’s a Prias.
Terry: I literally feel like literally were driving around in a virgina.

MOVIE REVIEW: RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE 3D (15)

SMALL’S REVIEW:

Can I just start by saying WOW! What a brilliant movie this is. There is so much action right from the get go. This is your typical Resident Evil film with all the zombies and killings. Although I say typical it was far from predictable. Throughout the film I kept being left gobsmacked from the way in which some of the scenes went.

If you have never seen a Resident Evil movie film before I think you should start now you won’t be disappointed. The Director “Paul W.S Anderson” made sure he features from the game which being a resident evil fan thought was good. The acting was great as well it has the well known prison break star Michael Schofield (Wentworth miller) who plays Chris Redfield in the movie. So girls if you just want another chance to see Wentworth in action here is your chance. He co-stars next to Ali Larter who plays his sister Claire Redfield. But defiantly the one to watch is Milla Jovovich Who plays Alice. Angelina Jolie look out because this woman is here to take the action scene. She was simply brilliant. Her alongside Claire is a great team they were killing zombies for fun.

This Resident Evil film is taken from the fourth part of the series so if you’re a big fan you should know what to expect. When you’re making continuous versions of films I always think can you possibly make this better than the other but I have to say having seen the last one this is unquestionably better.

#Resident Evil is the number 1 film out now in the USA and is definitely my number 1 film right now. This is a must see!

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:   5+++++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

When Claire was being chased by the zombies. She jumped of the cliff swung on her rope and was still shooting then landed on the ground did a rolly polly and still got up shooting. Great scene.

MOVIE REVIEW: TAMARA DREWE (15)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

It’s amazing what plastic surgery can do for someone, isn’t it. lol

This film is from a novel by Posy Simmonds, about a young writer who comes back to the home village of Ewedown a new woman. Just walking down the farm had all the men eyeing her up.

Tamara Drewe is another good & funny British movie. It visually looks good thanks to Gemma Arterton who plays the lead role. I remember her face from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. This is one film not only was entertaining but it looked great. From the animals to the characters everything fell into the place. The characters had that on screen chemistry that made it interesting. The storyline had different main stories which meant there wasn’t a dull moment. Women will like this because this film has got good looking men, gossip, affairs and naughty neighbours.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  3.5+++~

SYNOPSIS:

A young newspaper writer returns to her hometown in the English countryside, where her childhood home is being prepped for sale.

MOVIE REVIEW: CYRUS (15)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

The Duplass brother’s jay and mark are back with this new film they wrote and directed. If you have been keeping up with this blog you will know I like comedy films because I find them fun & entertaining to watch.

This is one awkward movie. It’s sneaky and feels a little dark. What I saw from the trailer is not the same thing I got from when watching this one. The performances was good, the lead roles were great actors. This films nothing to shout about but it worth a watch if there’s nothing else on.

Cyrus is funny & emotional but I think it was more to do with the character of the son played by Jonah Jill that kept me interested. I wasn’t sure where the film was going for most the time and the rusty camera work didn’t help either. The storyline could have been much better that it was. The directors put their personal stamp on this film but just wasn’t able to create that comedic atmosphere needed.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  3+++

A recently divorced guy meets the woman of his dreams. Then he meets her son.

MOVIE REVIEW: WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? (12A)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

why why why did they have to go to the Bahamas at the start of this film? It actually ruined a well written out script. The start is boring, there’s was way too much talking that I was mentally drained by the first 40mins. It took too long for the story to get going. I wasn’t even paying that much attention until about half way though because that’s when it got juicy.

It was entertaining to watch the different types of relationships going on between the four couples. This American comedy-drama is good but could have been much better. The first in the sequel (why did I get married) generated a buzz for the second one but then doesn’t pull out all the stops it should have. Why Did I Get Married too is worth a watch but I think some people will think its rubbish.

Janet Jackson who played Patricia Agnew gives a knockout performance. I didn’t know she was such a natural on screen, her emotional scenes were heartfelt and believable. She was even better when she was angry. She went through a cycle of emotions and handled it like a true pro. Tasha Smith is plays one crazy, jealous & loud wife. Her character was funny, she also was a good actress. Haven’t said that some credit must go to the Director, Writer, Producer & Actor Mr. Tyler Perry. It’s not his best work though.

#Can u believe this film came out in April in America, and the UK is just getting it in the cinemas in September.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  3+++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

Marcus & his wife's relationship throughout the film was sheer entertainment.

MOVIE REVIEW: BONDED BY BLOOD (18)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

Every time im about to watch a British made film I hold my breath because it’s either good or bad. Forget the good as I am glad to say Bonded by Blood has all the rights to be a classic. I like way the director Sacha Bennett has managed to keep a rough & rugged tone throughout the movie. This is meant to be the portrayal of what happened with the Essex Boys from the mid nighties.

This was portrayed very well and is believable to an extent. The acting was good I had no problem with the cast. I think Im saying that because I love the British culture, voice and their way of thinking. I was entertained throughout with the action scenes. I mean how could I not be there’s gangsters with guns dealing with cocaine who had their own types of relationship with each other. A real head rush.

Who says the UK can’t make great films?

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  4++++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

Whole Film Is A Classic.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE LAST EXORCISM (15)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

Did you like the Blair witch project? If your answer is yes then you will like this one. The Last Exorcism is a little bit scary but I will say the similarities of the Blair witch project makes it seem like a copy.

The Producer Eli Roth is made to look like an amateur with the way the camera shots were taken. The editing wasn’t at its best either. It looked like they had only 2 camera’s to make this and didn’t change any mistake they made in the footage. In my opinion it’s too shaky, this makes it not as scary as it should be. Shame really.

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it but the ending is shambolic. I couldn’t even tell what was going on. The script is cleverly written so all the fans of the horror genre will have a entertaining time at the cinema. The lead actor was one of the reason I kept watching this film, he’s performance was good and so was the possessed teenager.

I found this movie okay I guess. It’s not the best scary film by a long shot but it does the job.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  2.5++~

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

The scene where the teenage girl becomes possessed.

(if you loved another moment in the film, please feel free to tell me in the comments)

SYNOPSIS:

A troubled evangelical minister agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE SWITCH (12A)

SLIDER’S REVIEW:

I must say I hate watching a film trailers like this one and knowing how a film is going to end. There’s no element of surprise as everything I need to know about the film was on the trailer. The Switch is definitely a girly film, I was in the cinema surrounded by women from their teens to the middle ages, I felt sorry for the boyfriend/husbands who were dragged along.

I didn’t think I it would be entertained but I was. I felt the storyline was more than good enough after watching it. The romance perfectly fits into place & the acting was better than expected. But to be blunt about this film I realised that here was just another Jennifer Aniston chick flick. It wasn’t anything new, I felt like I had seen it all before.

My favourite character in this film would have to be the son Sebastian played by Thomas Robinson. Everybody loves cute kids in a film, especially if they are good actors. It’s amazing to see such a young kid pull of a grown up performance. Jason Bateman’s character suited him really well. He plays a single man named Wally who’s funny and negative at the same time.

This is a film for WOMEN & WOMEN only lol.

MY STAR RATINGS OUT OF 5:  3+++

ONE FAVOURITE MOMENT IN THE FILM:

The Bathroom Sperm Switch
